Glycogenolysis - This glycogen metabolism lecture explains about the glycogen breakdown by the enzyme glycogen phosphorylase. This enzyme attaches phosphate group to the glycogen that breaks down glycogen into glucose 1 phosphate. Later, glucose 1 phosphate can be converted into glucose 6 phosphate and can be taken through the glycolysis pathway to produce pyruvate. This process of glycogen breakdown is known as glycogenolysis and it is regulated by glucagon hormone.
